Check out a flyball tournament

EDITOR:

For the sixth year in a row, our community is hosting a flyball tournament. This gathering of incredibly athletic dogs and their handlers has been growing every year. Why? Because the teams, which range from Las Vegas to Ottawa, Canada, like it here. They enjoy the people, our lakeshore, and the weather, which is a treat for many. The tournament is held at the Miracle of Life building at the fairgrounds. For those of you that have never heard of flyball, it is a relay race between teams of four dogs. They jump through four hurdles and catch a ball, to return through the hurdles and pass their teammate. This all happens in a matter of seconds! Those of you that have been coming, will be sure to come back. It is a fast-paced, intense sport, and the excitement of the teams is contagious. And it’s free.

There are bake sales and bucket raffles provided, and the proceeds go to the Delta Animal Shelter in Escanaba, and the Eva Burrell Shelter in Manistique. Come on Saturday, Aug. 4 and the 5th to enjoy the fun and watch the most amazing canine sport you have ever seen. Racing starts at 9 a.m. and will go to about 6 p.m. each day. Children are welcome, but there may not be room for your dogs. It’s a great way to spend the day.
