Although the wheels of justice turn ever so slowly, they do, in fact, turn.

And although the American system of jurisprudence is far from perfect — slowness being one of the prime complaints about it — no one has come up with a better system.

This week, in the U.S. District Court in Grand Rapids, those wheels of justice ran over, so to speak, a pair of Nigerian nationals charged in the death of Marquette Area Public Schools student Jordan DeMay.

DeMay died by his own hand in 2022 after being victimized in what’s known as a sextortion scheme.

Samuel Ogoshi, 22, and Samson Ogoshi, 20, of Lagos, Nigeria, each pleaded guilty to conspiring to sexually exploit teenage boys in the Western District of Michigan and across the United States.

The offense of conspiracy to sexually exploit minors requires a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison, up to 30 years.

A third defendant, Ezekiel Robert, remains in Nigeria. His extradition request is in the courts there.

“Today’s guilty pleas represent an extraordinary success in the prosecution of international sextortion,” U.S. Attorney Mark Totten said in a press release. “These convictions will send a message to criminals in Nigeria and every corner of the globe: working with our partners both here and overseas, we can find you and we can bring you to justice. I hope these guilty pleas also bring a small measure of relief to the family of Jordan DeMay, who died as a result of this crime.”

What these two did to Jordan DeMay was nothing short of evil. A federal prison somewhere is a good place for them.
