Attorney helped people

This week’s bouquets go to:

From Mike “Chief” Olson of Escanaba:

Recently attorney Jayne Mackowiak passed away at a young age. I met Jayne when I was a volunteer in the courthouse and we assisted each other in that she had broad courtroom experience here and I then had a fledging jail ministry. I saw her in court many times standing up for many young men who needed good legal help. I thought she was going out of her way to be of help, but she was just gladly doing her usual service. I would send clients her way and she would recommend some to me. We were kind of an informal team. I appreciated her candor and desire to help men who could not afford high priced legal representation. I now know of two men in Michigan prisons who still owe much to Jayne, because she fought for them and at least 4 right now “free” who similarly owe much. A confidential, caring, look out for the underdog legal eagle — couldn’t beat that. RIP, Jayne. P.S. I also supplied her sweet tooth with penny candy.
