Roy D. Burns

MANISTIQUE – Roy D. Burns, age 68, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at Schoolcraft Medical Care facility after a lengthy illness.

Roy was born on April 29, 1957 to John and Mary (Bellville) Burns in Manistique. He was a 1975 graduate of Manistique High School. After graduation he went on to venture in business. Over the years he owned and operated Roy’s Place, Lakeview Lanes, the Mini Golf, and was the landlord for Boardwalk Estate Apartments. Roy was kind, loving, motivated, and genuinely loved helping others.

Roy enjoyed Nascar, Golf, Hunting and taking long walks. Sometimes he would spontaneously hit the road and take short all-day adventures. His favorite activity was bowling, especially the day he rolled a 300 game! He had a passion for cars, especially Corvettes and El Caminos. You could often hear the music of Bob Seger, Bruce Springsteen or the Eagles coming from his car radio. Through his love of cars and working on them he met his wife, Jackie Krusic. Together they worked hard at the businesses and their love turned into a lifetime partnership.

Roy was an amazing mechanic. He could literally fix just about anything. He will be remembered for using zip ties or duct tape to tide him over until he could find the part he actually needed. He received his pilot’s license and you could sometimes catch a glimpse of him flying his ultra-lite plane over the beaches of Lake Michigan.

Roy will be fondly remembered by his family: Jackie, Sons: Rodney (Alisha Fox) Burns, Ronald (Allison) Burns, Spencer Burns; Grandchildren: Domani, Elijah, Ethan, Eva, Urijah, Monroe, Lennox, Stormy, Sebastian and great-grandchild Elowyn.

He is also survived by his mother, Mary Burns; Brothers: Earl, Billy (Linda Jenerou), George (Sharon), Tom (Bonnie Walters), all from Manistique and one sister, Ann (Ken) LaBumbard from Gladstone and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Burns and his sister Linda (Tom) St. Pierre.

Roy always said when he died, he didn’t want anyone crying over him. He wanted his friends and family to celebrate, tell stories, and remember the good times. A graveside celebration of Roy’s life will take place in the spring.

In Roy’s honor, please send any donations directly to Skradski Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses.
