Debbie Humbert
ESCANABA – Debbie “Ms. Deb” Humbert, 74, of Escanaba, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 27, 2026, at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.
Born on June 23, 1952, in Manistique, Michigan, Debbie was the beloved daughter of Harris and Dorothy (Leivdal) Humbert. She moved with her family to Escanaba at the age of twelve.
Debbie graduated from Escanaba High School and soon found her life’s calling in early childhood education. For 50 remarkable years, she dedicated herself to the Head Start-Early Childhood Program in Escanaba, where generations of children were greeted by her steady presence, warm smile, and gentle encouragement and she was known as Ms. Deb. Teaching wasn’t just her profession — it was her purpose. Even after retiring from Head Start, Debbie continued sharing her gift at Country School House Day Care Center in Danforth, because nurturing young minds simply came naturally to her.
Her love for children was matched only by her love for animals, especially dogs. Debbie volunteered at the Delta County Animal Shelter and found great joy walking her four-legged companions and spending time outdoors. She also cherished her regular dinners at the Stonehouse Restaurant with her long-time Head Start friends; evenings filled with laughter, stories, and the kind of bonds that last a lifetime.
Debbie is survived by her sister, Karen Carlson of Powers; her brother, Brent Humbert of Escanaba; her niece, Sheila Meier; and her nephews, Scott, and Brian Humbert. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Judith Ann Revere.
Debbie’s legacy lives on in the countless children she helped guide, the animals she cared for, and the many lives she touched with her kindness and steady heart.
Burial will take place in the spring at New Garden Cemetery in Garden, Michigan. The Anderson Funeral Homes of Escanaba and Gladstone are assisting the Humbert family. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfunerahomes.net.
