ESCANABA — Wendy Sue Hatala, 69, of Escanaba passed away Saturday, November 8, 2025, at her home in Escanaba. She was born August 3, 1956, in Indiana and was the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Gardner) Viau. Wendy grew up in Wells, graduated from Escanaba High School in 1974, and then attended Bay de Noc Community College. Wendy owned and operated Escanaba Marine, a food supply company, suppling food to the ore boats in the U.P. and Northern Wisconsin and Minnesota. Wendy enjoyed golfing, shooting pool and was a member of the Delta Co. Women’s Pool league and Players De Noc. She was an avid Green Bay Packer fan, enjoyed a good time and had many friends. Wendy married Terry Hatala on February 7, 2000, in Escanaba.
Wendy is survived by husband, Terry; grandchildren, Marcus Fassbender, Ecko Fassbender and Cheyenne Dolaskie; mother, Margaret (Steve) Nault, Escanaba; brothers, Joe Viau, San Diego, CA and Chuck (Ann) Viau, Escanaba; sister, Candy (Todd) Benoit, Wells, step daughter, Whitney Hatala, Menominee; step grandchild, Legend, Menominee; mother-in-law, Kay Helmuth, Menominee; sister-in-law, Stacey Hatala, Marquette and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by father, Joseph Viau, sons, David and Brian Fassbender.
Private family services were held at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Wendy’s last words. GOOD BYE!
