William Harold Bolm

William Harold Bolm
ALEXANDRIA, MN — William “Bill” Harold Bolm was born on June 5, 1938, in Escanaba, MI to parents Harold & Alice Bolm. He had a carefree childhood, filled with Little League, shooting hoops on his driveway, paper routes and working in his family’s grocery store.
After graduating from Escanaba High School in 1956, he enrolled in Western Michigan University where he joined the football and basketball teams. Upon graduation, he attended Lutheran Bible Institute before enlisting in the United States Army for two years, where he served as Company Commander. After his time in the service, he spent three years in Fort Wayne, Indiana teaching and coaching alongside his childhood mentor.
One of the most significant chapters of Bill’s life were the four years he spent as a lay missionary at the Queenstown Lutheran Church in Singapore where he started a chapter of the Boy’s Brigade youth group, and coached basketball. “Bill Bolm Hall” remains there today in his honor.
Bill was a professor at Golden Valley Lutheran College from 1970-1985. While attending Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley, he met his loving wife, Janet. The two were married on July 29, 1984, and were blessed with three daughters Anna, Britta, and Christa. They settled in Alexandria in 1990; where Bill was a counselor, coach, and sub until he finally decided to retire at age 80. While he had many roles throughout his life, being a dad was his favorite. The “Bolm girls” were his pride and joy.
Bill had a passion for traveling and seeing the world and all its marvelous beauty. When home, he loved working in the yard, cheering on his beloved Alexandria Cardinals and other MN sports teams and attending weekly Rotary meetings. He loved to serve in the church, teaching Confirmation and attended many men’s Bible studies. His faith in Jesus was a constant throughout his life, and he never missed an opportunity to share the love of Christ.
