Lawrence Henry Bergquist

PANGBURN, Ark. — Lawrence Henry Bergquist, 74, of Pangburn, Arkansas, passed away on December 18, 2021 at his home after a six-year battle with cancer.

Larry was born in Escanaba, Mich. on April 15, 1947 to Edwin and Dorothy (Erickson) Bergquist. He graduated from Escanaba Area High School in 1965. While in high school, he joined the Michigan National Guard and served for one year and four months before converting to the United States Navy. He completed his basic training at San Diego, Calif. before transferring to the Naval Air Technical Training Center in Memphis, Tenn. He was later transferred to the Naval Air Station Barbers Point in the Operations Maintenance Division in O’ahu, HI. He finished his service at the San Diego, North Island Naval Air Station and was discharged in 1969 as an Aviation Machinist Mate 3rd Class.

Larry made his home in Neenah, Wis. and began employment with American Can in 1969. Although the company changed its name and ownership several times over the years, he remained there as a valued employee for 37 years, retiring in 2006.

In 2004, Larry purchased property in Franklin, Arkansas and after his retirement, he spent many hours clearing that property before building his home there. While in Franklin, he met and married his wife Brenda Dyer. In 2015, After clearing property for a new home, they relocated to Pangburn, Ark. He enjoyed woodworking with this stepdaughter, Sherri and they completed projects together.

Larry is survived by his wife, Brenda; son, Lawrence E. “Butch” of Oshkosh, Wis.; brother, Dale (Kathy) Bergquist; sisters, Sherry (Chuck) Johnson and Bonnie (Curt) Nyquist; and stepdaughter, Sherri (Robert) Austin; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
