Daniel Lee ‘Danny’ LaCosse

ESCANABA — Daniel Lee “Danny” LaCosse, 70, of Escanaba, passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.

He was born on December 6, 1950 in Escanaba, son of Adelore and Bernice (Delaire) LaCosse. Dan was raised in Gladstone and attended All Saints Church, where he was an altar boy. He attended Gladstone High School and Bay de Noc Community College. Dan was a standout athlete during his high school years playing basketball, football and boxing. He held many records at Gladstone High School.

On December 28, 1974, Donna M. O’Neil united in marriage with Daniel Lee LaCosse at St. Francis Xavier Church in Spalding.

Dan worked in the woods with his dad and brother in early adulthood for many years. He was employed as an iron worker and also was a general contractor. He was involved with some significant developments including the first nuclear power plant in Florida and the Mackinac Bridge amongst others. He was also an “extra” in the movie Porky’s Revenge, starring Burt Reynolds, which was also a highlight story for him to share with others.

He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He loved fishing, gardening and spending time with his beloved wife, daughter, grandchildren and other family. Dan always enjoyed and appreciated the daily visits with his nephew, Ricky, who often would help with the daily chores.

He was a past member of the Escanaba Jaycees.

Among survivors include his wife, Donna LaCosse of Escanaba; daughter, Jessica LaCosse (Aarron Boothe) of Battle Creek, Mich.; two grandchildren, Marissa Gardner of Kirksville, MO and Aiden Boothe of Battle Creek, Mich.; brother, Wayne (Sandy) LaCosse of Escanaba; father-in-law, Donald O’Neil of Spalding; in-laws, Debbie (Glen) Pasko, Danny (Carla) O’Neil and Doreen (Chuck) Fazer; and many special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Adelore and Bernice; siblings, Adelore “Joe” LaCosse Jr., Judy LaCosse, Jane (Earl) Brazeau, Darlene (Carl) Carlson and Lorraine (Wally) Porath; mother-in-law, Dolores O’Neil; and brother-in-law, Dennis.

Visitation will be on Saturday, October 23 from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St., Escanaba. The funeral service will be at 4 p.m. with Deacon Terry Saunders officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Eagles Club in Escanaba.

There will also be a celebration of Dan’s life held on November 24 at 5 p.m. starting at Northtown Crown Bar for a drink followed by friends and family making their way to his other favorite bars.
