Susan Miron Mathias (Suzy)

ESCANABA — Susan Miron Mathias (Suzy) passed away unexpectedly and tragically on September 21, 2020. Suzy was born on June 4, 1954 to Bernice Kasbohm (Bourdeau) and Richard Miron and raised by her stepfather Jack Bourdeau in Escanaba, Michigan.  Suzy spent her early childhood years after her father’s death living with her grandparents Dolly and Patrick Miron enjoying life on the Miron family farm in Cornell, Michigan.

Suzy will be remembered for her sense of adventure, love for animals and her ability to cook meals that were fantastic. She was a very kind and gentle soul who would give you the shirt off her back until she had nothing to give. Suzy loved to paint and was an amazing artist and enjoyed painting mountain scenery. In her early 30s Suzy lived in Colorado for a short period of time that fueled her fascination for painting the Colorado sunsets and mountain fourteeners. She also loved playing the guitar and singing Johnny Cash and Johnny Horton songs. She will be remembered by her beautiful song bird voice. In later years Suzy enjoyed going to the casino and trying her luck at a favorite slot machine. On a visit to see her daughter in Colorado she spent time in the gambling towns of Central City and Blackhawk. She loved going to what she called “Mini Vegas” in the mountains. Spending Thanksgivings with her siblings in her “cabin in the woods” is a memory cherished by family. Suzy loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren more than life itself. Her granddaughter Sarah Themel took very special care of Grandma Suzy and was the best at “Grandma Interventions and Makeovers”! Her grandson Brent Themel was also by her side as he grew up and always there to help his Grandma Suzy! She enjoyed every moment with all the grandchildren and made sure to tell everyone how proud she was of her grand babies. They all held a very special place in her heart. Even though distance prevented her from seeing her two grandsons in Colorado on a regular basis, she made the most of every moment spent with them. Her Colorado train themed adventure will never be forgotten by the grandkids. Suzy was about creating long lasting memories that her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will all hold close to their hearts forever. Suzy was the type of person you met once and would simply never forget!

Suzy was preceded in death by her parents Bernice Kasbohm-Bourdeau and Patrick Mironand stepfather Jack Bourdeau, maternal grandparents Walter and Sarah Kasbohm, Paternal Grandparents Dolly and Patrick Miron and three granddaughters Samantha, Christine and Michaela. She was also preceded in death by her very special furry friend Buddy!
