Shirley A. Larsen

GLADSTONE — Shirley A. Larsen, age 91, of Gladstone (Lake Bluff), passed away Sunday, October 25, 2020 at Christian Park Healthcare Center in Escanaba. She was born on January 26, 1929 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Joseph and Agnes Bulchak. At a young age, Shirley’s family relocated to Escanaba and was a 1940 graduate of Escanaba High School. Following high school, she worked as a beautician and also at Sayklly’s Candy Factory.

The former Shirley Bulchak married Edward Donald Nelson in 1952 and he preceded her in death in August of 1974. Together, the couple shared 22 years of marriage and raised two sons, Gary and Greg. Shirley was employed as a claims representative by Citizen’s Insurance Company in Escanaba from 1977 until her retirement in 1991. She married Gaylord Larsen in 1991 and he also preceded her in death on September 15, 2016. Shirley was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Escanaba. She found joy in playing cribbage and bridge, and also enjoyed traveling and spending warm weather winters in their RV.

Shirley A. Larsen is survived by sons, Gary (Terri) Nelson of Kelsey, Minn., and Greg (Julie) Nelson of Meadowlands, Minn.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Mary Lessard of Escanaba; and three stepchildren, Richard (Joan) Larsen of Green Bay, Wis., James (June) Larsen of Escanaba; and Jane (Bill) Alexander of Commerce, Mich.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Shirley was preceded in death by her sister, Geraldine Londo; and brother, Roland Bulchak.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, October 29, at Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells, Mich., with Father Fran DeGroot officiating.
