Reynold H. ‘Ray’ Doney

ISHPEMING — Reynold H. “Ray” Doney, age 87, life-long Ishpeming resident, passed away Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Marquette County Medical Care Facility.

Reynold was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on September 23, 1933, a son of the late Bartlett and Eleanor (Anderson) Doney.

Ray graduated from Ishpeming High School, class of 1952 and served his country in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1957.

Ray was the manager at Carroll Motors Supply for many years, he later worked for the City of Ishpeming in the Department of Public Works, and most recently worked at Jim’s Jubilee.

Ray was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Ishpeming, the Ishpeming Elks Lodge 447, and the American Legion.

Ray was a “handyman” always working on a project, helping others, and a craftsman woodworker. He was an avid Hematite and Packer fan and a season ticket holder of the Green Bay Packers for many years. Ray enjoyed time spent at camp and was a friend to all.

Ray is survived by his wife, Christine C. (Granlund) Doney, whom he married on October 5, 1957; two daughters, Eleanor (Jon) LaFreniere of Gladstone and Laurel (Herbert) Myers of Escanaba; four grandchildren, Chantelle LaFreniere, Trina Myers, Holly (Kyle) Marenger, and Brandon (Megan) Myers; four great-granddaughters, Haylee, Melia, Vivian, Scarlet; and sister in law, Mary Doney, along with numerous nieces and nephews and his beloved dog Kia.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Robert and Donald Doney and a sister Dorriane Pantti.

A private memorial service will be held at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home.

A public graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday October 14, at the Ishpeming Cemetery, where Military Honors will be accorded by the U.S. Air Force.

Memorial considerations may be directed to the Ishpeming Booster Club, Ishpeming High School Scholarship Fun, or the UP Honor Flight in memory of Reynold Doney.

Ray’s family would like to thank the staffs a UP Home Health and Hospice, and MCMCF for the wonderful care given to Ray.
