Darlene J. (Sundberg) Crago

FLORENCE, Wis. –Darlene J. (Sundberg) Crago, 88, of Florence, Wis., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility, Crystal Falls, Mich.

She was born July 7, 1932, in Florence, Wis., daughter of the late Earl and Ethel (Roberts) Sundberg. Darlene grew up in Commonwealth, and graduated valedictorian from Florence High School, class of 1950. She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Charles “Chuck” Crago on Dec. 27, 1952. They celebrated 52 years of marriage, ending with his death in 2004. Darlene and Chuck were blessed with four children.

Darlene was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church of Florence, where she served as its editor of “The Fisherman” newsletter. She also volunteered her time as editor of the First United Methodist Church in Rothchild, Wis., when she resided there. Darlene served on the board of Christian Women’s Club both in Iron Mountain, Mich., as well as Rothchild, Wis., and led various Stonecroft Ministry Bible Studies. She also worked at State Farm Insurance in Escanaba, Mich. when she resided there.

Darlene was a devoted wife and mother, and she was always smiling, friendly and compassionate to everyone with whom she came into contact. She enjoyed spending time with her family on Lake Emily as well as spending winters in Englewood, Florida. Her hobbies included reading, birdwatching, golfing, listening to music and signing, and enjoying God’s nature and creation.

Darlene was a living example of 1 Corinthians: 13, and her love of Jesus and strong faith proved to be a living legacy to her family. She will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.

Survivors include two sons, Jeff (Gayla) Crago, Florence, Wis., and Mike (Kim Stoval) Crago, Panama City, Fla.; two daughters, Kim Richmond, Florence, Wis., and Kathy (Rich) Elack, St. Augustine, Fla.; one sister, Mary Jane Vyvyan; 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and by numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Chuck, Darlene was preceded in death by one infant sister, Bonnie Jean Sundberg; and son-in-law, Kent Richmond.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Aug. 8, from 10 until 11:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Florence, Wis. Funeral services will be Saturday, 11:30 a.m. at the church. Pastor Lisa Ubbelohde will officiate. Burial will be in Commonwealth Cemetery, Commonwealth, Wis.
