Ruth N. LaCount

CARNEY — Ruth N. LaCount, 95 of Carney, Mich., passed away on Monday, July 13, 2020 at Cedar Hill Assisted Living in Bark River, Mich. The former Ruth Naomi Schroeder was born on Oct. 13, 1924 in Corunna, Mich., to the late Homer and Livonia (Mallory) Schroeder. Following graduation from high school, Ruth attended Emmanuel Missionary College and graduated with her bachelor’s degree. On Aug. 6, 1950, Ruth married Charles “Chaunce” LaCount in Ithaca, Mich. Chaunce preceded her in death on July 24, 2013. Ruth taught elementary school in church schools for 11 years and then taught 23 years in Berrien Springs Public Schools where she started one of the first Title 1 programs in Berrien County. Ruth retired from teaching in 1986. She enjoyed watching birds and wildlife and traveling (visiting all 50 states and part of Canada). Ruth was a very active member of the Wilson Seventh Day Adventist Church where she taught Sabbath School and enjoyed working with children.
