Floyd I. Olson

WAUNAKEE, Wis. — Floyd I. Olson, 85, formerly of Waupaca and Greenfield, Wis., passed away on Friday, March 13,, 2020 at Brightstar Community in Waunakee, Wis. He was born on Oct. 31, 1934, In Stonington, Mich., to Richard and Aurora (Groleau) Olson. Floyd was married to the former Darlene Johnson on Sept. 14, 1957, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 17, 2009.

Surviving Floyd are his sons, Kevin (Kim), Steve (Stacy Schultz) and his grandsons, Skyler and Joey; brothers and sisters, Don Olson of Escanaba, MIich., Margie (Ken) Sawyer of Bethlehem, Pa., and Keith (Shirley) Olson of Daggett, Mich.; also many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Darlene, he was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Pauline Snoad and Phyllis Rognstad: brother-in-law, Bruce Rognstad, and sister in law, Leah Olson.

Floyd will be remembered for his work ethic and as an avid sportsman who fully enjoyed the outdoors for as many years as he could manage. Floyd was quietly proud of his service to his country in the Navy as a radio operator on the USS Bordelon during the Korean War.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Amyloidosis Foundation http://www.amyloidosis.org/. Amyloidosis is a rare disease that took such a vibrant hard-working man so slowly and shamefully. Floyd valiantly made every attempt to overcome each challenge as they came until the very last.

Private graveside services will be held in the spring. Floyd will be laid to rest next to his wife in the Lakeview Cemetery.
