Leonard Frank Coble

GLADSTONE — Leonard Frank Coble, 82, of Gladstone, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, at Christian Park Healthcare Village.

Leonard was born in Detroit, Mich., Oct. 17, 1936, the son of John and Lillian (Jackson) Coble.

While attending High School in Cooks, Mich., in 1955 Leonard decided to take on a summer job on Mackinac Island. He drove horse and buggy for the Grand Hotel and during the summer he met the love of his life, Alida Jean. They fell in love on the shores of Lake Huron and after dating for a year, they were united in marriage in 1956. Moving to Detroit, they started their family and he worked driving taxi cab with his father John and brother Jack. Eventually, he moved his family to the Upper Peninsula where he pursued his career as a machinist, retiring from Lakeside Machine. He was a hard worker and loved his family.

Leonard enjoyed fixing old cars and hobby farming on the side. Following his retirement, he pursued yet another adventure with Alida Jean, buying, repairing, and selling houses. They helped many families and strangers along the way. With his Love for the Lord, there was never a person he wouldn’t help. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Leonard is survived by two sons, Steve (Cherie) Coble of Gladstone, Tim (Gidget) Coble of Hyde, Mich.; two daughters, Debbie (Tom) Savola of Gladstone, Joni Vanhorn of Escanaba; one sister, Alice Baatz of Ohio; seven grandchildren, Noah, Jonathan, Adam, Shannon,Timothy Jr, Joshua, and Derek; along with several great-grandchildren.

In addition to his loving wife, Alida Jean, Leonard is preceded in by his parents, John and Lillian (Jackson) Coble; two daughters, Cheryl and Catherine Coble; and brother, Jack (Flo) Coble.

Family will receive friends Thursday, Sept. 19, from 3 until 4 p.m. at the Harbor Lights Church of God in Escanaba. A funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. with Rev. Tony Morrison officiating. A luncheon will follow services at the church. Leonard will be laid to rest in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Chatham, Mich.
