Howard Poehlman

CASSOPOLIS Mich. — Howard Poehlman, 102 of Cassopolis, Mich., formerly of Bark River, passed to his heavenly home on May 3, 2019. He was born on April 13, 1917, at home in Granger, Ind., to Otto Sr. and Marie (Wolfe) Poehlman. In his younger years he worked as a mason, then drove truck for Davis Products and Transcon and retiring as a terminal manager for Central Transport in New Buffalo, Mich. He moved to the U.P. in 1980 where he resided until 2005 when he returned to Cassopolis or the farm where he grew up. He loved to hunt, fish and travel. He enjoyed gardening and mowing his lawn, even at age 101.

He is survived by wife Mary (Hollingsworth) Poehlman, whom he married on Dec. 26, 2004, also son, Bradley (Cindy) Poehlman of Bark River; daughter, Nira (Tony) Makay of Decatur, Mich.; brother, Russ (Juanita) Poehlman of Ocala, Fla.; and sister, Lois (Art) Bowman of Cassopolis, Mich., as well as 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his first wife of 61 years, Jane (Fisher) Poehlman, on Jan. 20, 2004, daughter Kay Luke in 1988 and two brothers and three sisters.

Due to his wishes, cremation has taken place and remains will be placed in Bark River Cemetery. A future private memorial will be held by family. Arrangements have been made by Connelly-Wagner Family Funeral Chapel of Cassopolis.
