Wayne R. ‘Puffy’ Miller

SPALDING – Wayne R. “Puffy” Miller, 84, of Spalding, passed away on Thursday evening, Oct. 20, 2016, as a result of injuries sustained in a vehicle accident near Wilson.

Visitation will be on Friday, Oct. 28, from 1 to 4 p.m. (Central Time) at St. John Neumann Church in Spalding. Military rites will be at 3 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 4 p.m. with Rev. Michael Vichich officiating.

A meal will follow in the church hall.

Burial will be in Spalding Township Cemetery.

Wayne R. ‘Puffy’ Miller

SPALDING – Wayne R. “Puffy” Miller, 84, of Spalding, passed away on Thursday evening, Oct. 20, 2016, as a result of injuries sustained in a vehicle accident near Wilson.

Puffy was born on Jan. 30, 1932, in Sheboygan, son of Frank and Rose (Bouchard) Miller. His family relocated to Michigan when he was nine and he then attended Power-Spalding Schools, graduating in 1951.

Puffy proudly served our country while in the U.S. Army from 1952 until his honorable discharge as corporal in 1954. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was honored to be able to attend one of the U.P. Honor Flight Missions.

On Nov. 12, 1955, Wayne married Elaine Lewis at St. George’s Church in Bark River.

He was constable for Spalding Township for 40 years and was a deputy for the Menominee County Sheriff Department until his retirement. Puffy served on the Menominee County Road Commission for 18 years.

Puffy was a very active member of the American Legion Post 244 in Powers for 60 years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, Powers-Spalding Lions Club, honorary lifetime member of the Spalding Township Volunteer Fire Department, U.P. Steam and Gas Association and a dedicated member of St. John Neumann Parish.

He loved tinkering in his building with his brother Dennis on the many projects he had. Puffy also loved driving his Fordson tractor & Model T in the 4th of July parades and going out to camp.

Puffy is survived by his loving wife, Elaine of Spalding; four children, Michael (Linda) Miller of Hermansville, Cindy (Paul Port) Berto of Menominee, Marilyn (Joseph) Vandermissen of Wilson and Donna (Mike) Motto of Wilson; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one more on the way; brother, Dennis (Joan) Miller of Powers; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Roger and Wesley Miller; sister, Arline Stegemeyer and granddaughter, Mikala Miller.
