Gladstone meeting will consider manager, assessor
GLADSTONE — The Gladstone City Commission regular meeting tonight will include discussions surrounding two positions for the city.
One agenda item is to set a meeting to negotiate an interim city manager contract with Robert Spreitzer, currently the superintendent of the water department. Of two internal applicants to the city manager position, soon to be vacated by the retiring Eric Buckman, Spreitzer was the one selected by the subcommittee of Mayor Joe Thompson and City Commissioner Judy Akkala. According to the job posting, the interim position is to be for six months.
Later in the meeting, a subcommittee is to be appointed to research the options of a full-time assessor for the City of Gladstone. Assessor Janice Frizzell, who recently had a review, also performs assessor duties for neighboring townships.
Other items of business on the agenda include the swearing-in of a new public safety officer; an agreement with a law firm; guidelines for property tax exemptions, including for poverty; a special event permit application; and bill payments.
Gladstone City Commission meetings regularly occur at 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of each month in City Hall, 1100 Delta Ave. and are open to the public.
