Street work public hearing on tonight’s city council agenda

ESCANABA – The Escanaba City Council will have a public hearing tonight to hear comments or objections on improvements on South 18th Street from 20th to 22nd avenues south.

The city received a petition from property owners requesting the city construct a 24-foot-wide, double chip seal roadway overlay treatment in that area.

The council will decide whether to have another public hearing Nov. 6 on the proposed street improvement assessments.

The Escanaba Downtown Development Authority has also requested to close the 1000, 1100 and possibly 1200 blocks of Ludington Street and 11th Street to the alleys from 2:30 to 7 p.m. Sunday for the Spooktacular Trunk-or-Treat event. The event itself is set for 4 to 6 p.m.

The council will also consider awarding contracts to Elexco Inc. for the Westside Substation concrete and trenching work for a total of $117,625; Peninsula Solar to supply and install a rooftop solar array at the Electric Department for a total not to exceed $165,000; and Power System Engineering to provide engineering services for a 1.4MW-ac solar facility for a cost not to exceed $280,485.

Starting at $3.50/week.
