MUNISING — Detectives from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team arrested a 27-year-old man from Alger County for possession of firearms Wednesday.
After a six-month joint investigation involving agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and UPSET, it was determined that the suspect was a convicted felon and evidence posted on social media identified him shooting several different firearms.
As a convicted felon, the suspect was prohibited from using or possessing firearms, officials said. Due to the potential danger towards law enforcement, the Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team was utilized to execute a search warrant and take the suspect into custody, which happened without incident.
During a search of the residence, officers located 12 rifles and one pistol. The suspect had multiple semi-automatic firearms with large-capacity “drum type” magazines.
The suspect was lodged in the Alger County Jail. His name was not released.
Detectives from UPSET were assisted by troopers from the MSP Traffic Safety Team, the MSP K-9 Unit, the MSP Aviation Unit, the MSP Emergency Support Team and ATF.
