ESCANABA — The Delta County Sheriff’s Office has launched a new tool called Tip 411 that allows residents to submit crime tips anonymously.

Tips can be submitted two ways: through DeltaCo Sheriff app, available for download from App Store for iPhones or on Google Play for Android devices, or via anonymous text messages.

Text messages can be sent to 847411. To ensure that the message is received by the Delta County Sheriff’s Office, the texts should begin with the word “DCSOTIPS” followed by a space and the message. DCSOTIPS is a unique identifier that ensures the message is transmitted to the Delta County Sheriff’s Office.

The DeltaCo Sheriff app — which, despite its name is still part of the Tip 411 system — allows users to submit a tip by filling out a short form. Users can attach photos or videos and can use their phone’s current location to direct law enforcement to the scene of a crime.

While the new app and text messaging system are tools for witnesses of a crime to provide information anonymously, the Delta County Sheriff’s Office warns that the system is not designed for emergency situations. In case of an emergency, residents should always dial 911.

Starting at $3.50/week.
