Bay College millage approved
IRON MOUNTAIN — Dickinson County voters on Tuesday approved a millage renewal for Bay College by a vote of 2,389 yes to 1,804 no.
The requested renewal was 0.9987 mills, or just under $1 per $1,000 of taxable value, for 20 years.
The Bay College millage was the only question on Tuesday’s ballot.
Voter turnout was 18.6%, according to the Dickinson County Clerk’s Office.
Revenue from the millage helps Bay College maintain operations in Dickinson County and keep tuition costs lower, according to college officials.
Without the millage, the college indicated it would have needed to reassess costs to maintain operations, including tuition rates for Dickinson County students and services being provided through the Iron Mountain campus.
The college, which has campuses in Escanaba and Iron Mountain, also receives property tax support from Delta County at 3.2974 mills, or about $3.30 per $1,000 of taxable value.
