Murder victim is identified

CRYSTAL FALLS — The criminal complaint against a 78-year-old man accused of murder in Crystal Falls Township identifies the victim as Lavonne Heintz.

George Walter Kamber was arraigned in Iron County Trial Court on one count of homicide open murder after a woman was found dead early Sunday in Crystal Falls Township, a news release Thursday from the Iron County Sheriff’s Office stated. The release did not include the name of the woman.

The sheriff’s office was called about 6:45 a.m. Sunday to Crystal Falls Township “regarding the death of a 76-year-old woman,” according to the sheriff’s office news release. Kamber was taken into custody without incident and charged Tuesday.

Open murder means the degree of murder is not being specified at the outset, according to online information.

Kamber was given a bond of $150,000 cash/surety with conditions.

A 2015 obituary for Loretta Heintz-Kline in the Chicago Tribune names LaVonne Heintz as a surviving daughter, with George Kamber listed as LaVonne’s significant other.
