Three injured in Manistique crash

MANISTIQUE – Manistique Public Safety responded to head-on two-vehicle crash on Wednesday.

At roughly 11:39 a.m., Manistique Public Safety Department responded to a report of a two-vehicle head on crash on US Highway 2 near Chippewa Avenue.

Based on the dispatch information, support units from the Michigan State Police (MSP), Schoolcraft County Sheriff’s Department, Sault Tribe Police Department and Manistique EMS immediately responded to the crash location.

The initial investigation found that a 2017 Toyota Camry being driven by a 75-year-old female from Alanson, Mich., turned into the path of a 2024 Toyota Venza traveling westbound on US Highway 2. The 2024 Toyota Venza was being driven by a 49-year-old female from Garden, Mich.

Three individuals from the crash were transported to the Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital by Manistique EMS.

The individuals included the 75-year-old driver of the Toyota Camry, the 49-year-old female driver of the Toyota Venza, along with a 14-year-old front seat passenger of the same vehicle. Traffic flow was maintained on US Highway 2 with the assistance of the support police agencies while medical personnel attended to the injured.

The driver of the Toyota Camry was later transferred by Manistique EMS to UP Health Systems Marquette for life threatening injuries sustained in the crash. Both the driver and passenger of the 2024 Toyota Venza were released from Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation remains ongoing by the Manistique Public Safety Department
