Pioneer Days returning to Manistique

MANISTQUE — An event that celebrates Manistiques past is fast approaching. Pioneer Days is returning to Manistique on Saturday, June 28. The family event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Pioneer Park — the site of the historic Manistique Water Tower.

The return of Pioneer Days was announced recently by the Schoolcraft County Historical Society, which called the event ” a family fun filled day to discover, learn, and experience Schoolcraft County history.”

The festivities begin with a lumberjack breakfast offering at Tiffani’s Breakfast Cafe from 8 to 11a.m.

At the water tower, the exhibit inside will feature the the history of Thompson Township and the Christmas Tree Ship. There will also be antique vehicles, logging tools, and knitters, spinners, and weavers demonstrating their crafts throughout the grounds.

Also featured are in a unique collection of antique washing machines and stoves. Visitors can explore the grounds including the historical Post House, Kepler Log Cabin, and the vintage fire trucks including the 1880s hook and ladder.

Reenactors will portray early settlers such as Civil War veteran Eli Cool of Manistique, businessman George Orr, and singer and musician Hilda Ahlstrom. Children can take part in a treasure hunt with prizes. Old fashioned cotton candy , homemade pies, sno cones, and lemonade will be available for purchase. Suggested donation can be made at entry to the park. All proceeds benefit the future museum.
