Large turnout for Spooktacular Trunk-or-Treat
ESCANABA — With a display of animal scat and fur, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources took first place in the Spooktacular Trunk-or-Treat Sunday in downtown Escanaba.
Sponsored by the Escanaba Downtown Development Authority, the Teal Pumpkin Project event drew more than 500 ghosts and goblins and all kinds of other Halloween creatures for the trunk-or-treat.
“The response to this year’s event was amazing. There were a lot of families enjoying themselves and having fun,” said Samantha Gaudino, DDA volunteer and event organizer.
Bay Veterinary Clinic with their candy cane display took second. The minions at Kelli van Ginhoven for Delta County Commissioner placed third. The trunk displays were voted on by those attending the event.
The event supports those who have food allegories or other reasons they are not able to have candy.
“The fact that my son could pick something from every single trunk and be included made today such a special event for us,” Brittany Dubord, a mother of a child with a strict medical diet, said in an online post.
Thirty-seven businesses, organizations and individuals participated as trunks, offering candy, non-food items and even pumpkins.
“It was a tremendous day. Lots of smiles and fun. A big thank you to everyone who attended and those who decorated their trunks and distributed candy and non-food items,” said Craig Woerpel, DDA director.
The event ran from 4 to 6 p.m. at Center Court on Ludington Street between 10th and 12th Streets.
