Sewage discharge reported in Gladstone

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Wastewater Plant had a partially treated sewage discharge Wednesday morning at approximately 12:45 a.m. at the plant, according to Gladstone Wastewater Superintendent Rodney R. Schwartz. Approximately 10,000 gallons of partially treated wastewater flowed out of the primary clarifier and on to the plant property. Some wastewater ran on to Minneapolis Avenue and into the storm drain. This was due to a power failure and two starters on the primary effluent pumps failing. The event lasted for 10 minutes.
