City budget, special events on Escanaba council agenda

ESCANABA — Budgets, special events and water and wastewater projects all have a place on Thursday’s Escanaba City Council agenda.

Council will be setting May 2 as the fourth public hearing on the proposed city budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year. It is part of the ongoing process of finalizing the city budget

The council will also take up one of the area’s popular events. Council will be asked to approve use of Ludington Park and Ludington Street for the Annual Krusin Klassic Car Fun Run parade. The group is asking for use on May 31 from 6 to 8:15 p.m.. The city manager is recommending approval of the request contingent on:

– Proper insurance is provided naming the City of Escanaba as an additional insured, and

– Event sponsors provide all labor material and clean up at the conclusion of the event.

The Escanaba Motor Speedway is also seeking city council approval of Resolution No. 24-03, recognizing them as a nonprofit organization operating in the community for the purpose of obtaining a Charitable Gaming License from the State of Michigan.

Other items on the agenda include:

– A brief presentation will be given on the water department’s boil advisory procedure.

– City administration is requesting approval to retain Bosk Paint & Sandblast of Escanaba for services at the Escanaba Wastewater Plant painting of exterior/interior equipment, piping, and valves in an amount not to exceed $89,935 and to include $1,000 in contingencies. Money is budgeted for this work within the current fiscal year.

– City council approval is requested to retain professional services from FSO Management of Oconto Falls, Wis., for the bio-solids removal at a cost of $0.25/gallon plus a $12,000.00 mobilization fee. Money is budgeted for this fiscal year.

– City administration is requesting approval to retain C2AE of Escanaba for engineering services and implementing/conducting/executing the City of Escanaba’s EGLE AP Grant in an amount not to exceed $457,050.

Thursday’s meeting will be held in council chambers at the Escanaba City Hall at 7 p.m.
