Krusin Klassics kicks off with parade Friday

ESCANABA — The Krusin Klassics Fun Run returns this weekend for a celebration of classic and special interest vehicles.

The annual event kicks off Friday with a parade through downtown Escanaba at 7 p.m. The parade is a perennial fan favorite, drawing large crowds to Ludington Street to see the show vehicles as they pass by.

The parade will be followed by a dance at 8 p.m. at the Upper Peninsula State Fairgrounds, featuring the music of Grand Design. The dance is open to the public and will include bucket raffles, a silent auction and a ’50s and ’60s-themed costume contest. Cash prizes will be awarded for the best costumes.

On Saturday, the celebration of automobiles will continue with the Kruisin’ Klassics’ main event, the car show and swap meet. Gates open at 8 a.m.

The day will feature pulls on the Rhino Dyno from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the fairgrounds’ midway, vendor displays, food booths, a petting zoo, and of course, cars and trucks. Vehicles on display will include cars and trucks from 1998 or older, antique vehicles, and special interest cars and trucks.

It wouldn’t be a Krusin’ Klassics Fun Run without the Krusin’ Klassics raffle drawings, which will take place at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Ruth Butler Building.

More than 20 items will appear on this year’s raffle ticket, which are available for $5 each or $20 for five tickets. This year’s grand prize raffle car is a 1950 Ford Tudor, and all of the remaining prizes on the tickets are valued at over $100 each.

Show participants will also have a chance to win a 1996 Ford Mustang GT during a special participant drawing. Those interested in bringing their vehicle to the show can register at Building #5 on the fairgrounds on Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. or Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Those attending the show as spectators can enter the event with the purchase of a $5 button. Children age 12 and under are admitted free, and all military veterans are admitted free with proof of service.
