New COVID cases seen in local area

ESCANABA — Local data Wednesday showing both Delta and Menominee counties with 36 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the past week, a jump for Menominee County while Delta County’s numbers stayed steady.

Delta County also had 28 probable cases and Menominee County 11 probables since June 1, according to figures listed on the Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties website Wednesday. Neither county reported a new virus-related death.

The cases listed above are only those reported to health officials. They do not include COVID cases detected through tests performed at home that may not have been reported to health officials.

The PHDM website Wednesday had Delta County at 8,135 confirmed positives, 2,227 probable cases and 158 deaths since the pandemic began. Menominee County has had 4,098 confirmed positives, 1,752 probables and 65 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.

On the state level, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Wednesday added 351 confirmed positives to the Upper Peninsula’s tally since June 1: 96 in Marquette County, 44 in Houghton County, 37 in Delta County, 33 in Dickinson County, 31 in Menominee County, 23 in Chippewa County, 20 in Gogebic County, 16 in Iron County, 12 in Mackinac County, 10 in Ontonagon County, nine in Baraga County, eight in Alger County, five in Schoolcraft County, four in Keweenaw County and three in Luce County.

The state recorded another virus-related death in Houghton, Marquette and Ontonagon counties; Keweenaw County’s toll was reduced by one.

Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 54,044 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 851 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 489 confirmed cases and 57 probable, and 12 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 677 confirmed cases and 817 probable, 12 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 936 confirmed, 110 probable and 37 deaths, three probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,101 confirmed cases and 744 probable, 13 deaths and three probable; Alger County, 1,102 confirmed, 685 probable and eight deaths, five probable; Mackinac County, 1,712 confirmed cases and 901 probable, 28 deaths and three probable; Baraga County, 1,794 confirmed cases, 333 probable and 52 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,398 confirmed cases and 343 probable, 71 deaths and 17 probable; Gogebic County, 2,845 confirmed cases and 544 probable, 40 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 3,681 confirmed cases and 5,345 probable, and 86 deaths, 17 probable; Menominee County, 4,085 confirmed cases, 1,745 probable and 61 deaths, 10 probable; Dickinson County, 5,176 confirmed cases and 2,489 probable, 88 deaths and 22 probable; Houghton County, 7,047 confirmed cases, 1,147 probable, 85 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 8,123 confirmed cases and 2,215 probable, 134 deaths and 24 probable; and Marquette County, 12,878 confirmed cases, 3,298 probable and 124 deaths, 11 probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Wednesday had 18,453 new confirmed and probable coronavirus positives in Michigan since June 1, or an average of about 2,636 cases per day for the week’s span, for a total of 2,565,819 cases since COVID tracking began. The state for the week added 131 confirmed and probable deaths attributed to the virus to reach 36,538.
