ESCANABA — COVID-19 activity appears to be ticking up again, both locally and in the Upper Peninsula, though not nearly at the levels seen early in the year.

Local data Wednesday showed Delta County had 17 new confirmed COVID-19 positives and Menominee County 11 since April 27. Both had only single-digit increases the previous week.

Delta County also had 20 probable cases and Menominee County 11 more probables in the week’s span, according to figures listed on the Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties website Wednesday. Neither county had a new death blamed on the virus.

The PHDM website Wednesday had Delta County at 7,939 confirmed positives, 2,065 probable cases and 157 deaths since the pandemic began. Menominee County has had 3,971 confirmed positives, 1,702 probables and 64 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.

On the state level, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Wednesday added 268 confirmed positives — nearly 100 more than the previous week — to the Upper Peninsula’s tally since April 27: 112 in Marquette County, 37 in Houghton County, 32 in Chippewa County, 19 in Dickinson County, 16 in Mackinac County, 14 in Delta County, nine in Menominee County, eight in Gogebic County, six in Baraga County, five in Iron and Keweenaw counties, three in Alger County and two in Ontonagon County. The state recorded a virus-related death in Dickinson and Marquette counties in the past week; Mackinac County’s toll was reduced by one.

Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 51,964 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 839 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 465 confirmed cases and 55 probable, and 13 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 664 confirmed cases and 777 probable, 12 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 893 confirmed, 107 probable and 35 deaths, three probable; Alger County, 1,061 confirmed, 658 probable and eight deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,083 confirmed cases and 671 probable, 13 deaths and three probable; Mackinac County, 1,592 confirmed cases and 847 probable, 28 deaths and three probable; Baraga County, 1,730 confirmed cases, 318 probable and 51 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,324 confirmed cases and 335 probable, 71 deaths and 16 probable; Gogebic County, 2,755 confirmed cases and 523 probable, 40 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 3,502 confirmed cases and 5,117 probable, and 87 deaths, 17 probable; Menominee County, 3,962 confirmed cases, 1,694 probable and 60 deaths, 10 probable; Dickinson County, 5,032 confirmed cases and 2,415 probable, 87 deaths and 22 probable; Houghton County, 6,818 confirmed cases, 1,104 probable, 81 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 7,927 confirmed cases and 2,057 probable, 133 deaths and 24 probable; and Marquette County, 12,156 confirmed cases, 3,080 probable and 120 deaths, 10 probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Wednesday had 18,945 new confirmed and probable coronavirus positives in Michigan since April 27, or an average of about 2,706 per day for the week’s span, for a total of 2,444,891 cases since COVID tracking began. The state for the week added 62 confirmed and probable deaths attributed to the virus to reach 36,064.
