Above, Escanaba Public Safety officers extinguish a chicken coop fire in Fairview Estates mobile home park Monday afternoon. The owner of the coop was inside his home watching television when he saw smoke coming from coop out his window. The smoke quickly turned to flames, which engulfed the coop and melted the siding of a neighboring home. The blaze prevented the man from rescuing the two chickens inside. The cause of the fire is believed to be a heat lamp. Escanaba’s code of ordinances prohibits the keeping of chickens within the city limits.
