COVID-19 cases beginning to slow in Upper Peninsula

ESCANABA — Local data Monday showed Delta County added 23 confirmed COVID-19 positives in the past three days while Menominee County had 22 new cases.

Delta County also had 34 probable virus cases and Menominee County 13 probables since Friday, according to the Public Health of Delta and Menominee Counties website Monday.

The PHDM on Monday had Delta County at 7,756 confirmed cases and 2,015 probable, 148 deaths since the pandemic began. Menominee County 3,797 confirmed cases, 1,651 probable and 63 deaths. The deaths included confirmed and probable.

The MDHHS numbers indicated 163 new confirmed positives in the Upper Peninsula since Friday: 39 in Marquette County; 23 in Delta County; 22 in Menominee County; 18 in Dickinson County; 16 in Chippewa County; 14 in Gogebic County; eight in Iron County; six each in Alger, Houghton and Baraga counties; two in Mackinac County; and one each in Schoolcraft, Luce and Ontonagon counties. The state posted two more deaths in Iron County and one more each in Marquette, Chippewa and Houghton counties.

Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Monday has had 49,969 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 771 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Monday had Keweenaw County at 444 confirmed cases and 52 probable, and 11 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 638 confirmed cases and 743 probable, seven confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 853 confirmed, 101 probable and 33 deaths, two probable; Alger County, 1,015 confirmed, 656 probable and eight deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,057 confirmed cases and 649 probable, 11 deaths and two probable; Mackinac County, 1,486 confirmed cases and 828 probable, 25 deaths and two probable; Baraga County, 1,670 confirmed cases, 318 probable and 51 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 2,263 confirmed cases and 330 probable, 68 deaths and 13 probable; Gogebic County, 2,678 confirmed cases and 518 probable, 36 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 3,256 confirmed cases and 4,910 probable, and 74 deaths, 15 probable; Menominee County, 3,797 confirmed cases, 1,651 probable and 59 deaths, nine probable; Dickinson County, 4,928 confirmed cases and 2,343 probable, 82 deaths and 20 probable; Houghton County, 6,535 confirmed cases, 1,065 probable, 77 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 7,756 confirmed cases and 2,015 probable, 124 deaths and 24 probable; and Marquette County, 11,593 confirmed cases, 2,974 probable and 105 deaths, eight probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Monday had 5,380 new confirmed coronavirus positives in Michigan since Friday, or an average of about 1,793 per day for the three-day period, for a total to date of 2,037,742. The state since Friday added 60 deaths attributed to the virus to reach 30,959.
