Postal Service makes changes to standards

WASHINGTON — Starting today, the U.S. Postal Service will be implementing new service standards for First-Class Mail and periodicals, which could cause mail to be delayed.

According to the Postal Service, most First-Class Mail and periodicals will be unaffected by the new standards. Roughly 61 percent of First-Class Mail and 93 percent of periodicals will not see changes in delivery times.

However the time-in-transit standards will be increased by one to two days for certain mail that is traveling longer distances.

“By doing so, the Postal Service can entrust its ground network to deliver more First-Class Mail, which will lead to greater consistency, reliability, and efficiency that benefits its customers,” the Postal Service said.

Prices for certain services will also increase Sunday, Oct. 3. The Postal Service says they aim to reverse a projected $160 billion in losses over the next 10 years.

Starting at $3.50/week.
