Bonifas Gallery Coordinator Kate Oman describes some of the images shown in Steve Bowles’ “Bi Polar Cycle Time Line,” which is on display now as part of the “Journey Through Mental Health” exhibit. Bowles, who lives in Green Bay, Wis., used the drawings in his time line to give a glimpse of what life is like for someone with rapid-cycling bipolar.
ESCANABA — The Bonifas Arts Center has invited artists and professionals to do a talking series about mental health during the run of its current exhibit, “Journey Through Mental Health.”
The first talk will take place Monday, Oct. 4, from noon until 2 p.m. and be a training presentation by Veterans Affairs. The VA S.A.V.E. Training program teaches how to act with care and compassion when encountering a veteran who is in a crisis of experiencing suicidal thoughts. Many of the methods that will be discussed can be applied to anyone in crisis regardless of whether or not they are veterans.
The VA will also be bringing a paper crane project — made by and for veterans — to be added to the “Journey Through Mental Health” exhibit.
Other planned talks will be with the artists, Kate Oman and Bri Belanger, who will give their personal testimony on their journeys through mental health. The talks are free to attend.
For more information about these talks and other events happening at the Bonifas, find the Bonifas Arts Center on Facebook.
