Mission of Hope

Despite being moved to the Delta Plaza Mall due to weather, the Mission of Hope event held Sunday was still a success. During the event, 460 pairs of shoes — or vouchers for shoes if the correct size was not available — were distributed, more than 500 backpacks filled with age-appropriate school supplies were handed out, and hundreds of packs of diapers and almost 400 food boxes were given to families in need. In addition, 200 family portrait photos were taken and more than 75 haircuts were given in a two-hour period. Overall, estimates based on average family size suggest between 1,600 and 1,800 individuals were affected by the charitable event, which was co-sponsored by the Daily Press.
