New virus death in Delta County
ESCANABA — State COVID-19 data Thursday showed a new coronavirus-related death in Delta County along with nine new confirmed positives.
Delta County now has 67 confirmed and 19 probable deaths attributed to the virus, the most of any county in the Upper Peninsula.
For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Thursday listed a total of 55 new confirmed cases: 17 in Chippewa County; nine in Delta County; eight in Marquette and Houghton counties; three in Iron and Schoolcraft counties; two in Gogebic and Mackinac counties; and one each in Dickinson, Menominee and Luce counties. Chippewa County had the only other new death in the region.
Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Thursday has had 16,988 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 397 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Thursday had Keweenaw County at 124 confirmed cases and 30 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 135 confirmed cases and 112 probable, one probable death; Schoolcraft County, 240 confirmed cases and 36 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 284 confirmed, 160 probable and one death, four probable; Mackinac County, 308 confirmed cases and 167 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 374 confirmed, 56 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 516 confirmed cases, 107 probable and 33 deaths; Chippewa County, 809 confirmed cases and 1,112 probable, and 25 deaths, five probable; Iron County, 871 confirmed cases and 61 probable, 42 confirmed deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 962 confirmed cases and 354 probable, 21 confirmed deaths and 28 probable; Menominee County, 1,644 confirmed cases, 274 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,168 confirmed cases and 250 probable, 55 confirmed deaths and 16 probable; Houghton County, 2,247 confirmed cases, 550 probable, 31 confirmed deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 2,744 confirmed cases and 500 probable, 67 confirmed deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 3,562 confirmed cases, 581 probable and 55 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Thursday posted 5,224 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total of 642,869. The state added 49 new deaths Thursday — including 30 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 15,984.
