State reports local COVID-19 statistics

ESCANABA — As of Wednesday, the U.P. had 15,158 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 3,602 probable cases, 338 deaths and 78 probable deaths linked to the disease, according to state officials.

The figure does not include prisoners in the Michigan Department of Corrections.

According to the state’s county-by-county count issued Wednesday, Delta County had a total of 2,562 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 429 probable cases, 60 deaths and 18 probable deaths; Menominee County had 1,543 confirmed cases, 238 probable cases, 31 deaths and two probable deaths; Schoolcraft County had 223 confirmed cases, 23 probable cases, three deaths and one probable deaths.

Elsewhere in the peninsula, Alger County had 215 confirmed cases, 138 probable cases, one death and two probable deaths; Baraga County had 479 confirmed cases, 88 probable cases, and 29 deaths; Chippewa County had 662 confirmed cases, 961 probable cases, 13 deaths and two probable deaths; Dickinson County had 2,053 confirmed cases, 210 probable cases, 56 deaths and 14 probable deaths; Gogebic County had 757 confirmed cases, 303 probable cases, 16 deaths and 24 probable deaths; Houghton County had 1,797 confirmed cases, 446 probable cases, 27 deaths and seven probable deaths; Iron County had 810 confirmed cases, 62 probable cases, 32 deaths and five probable deaths; Keweenaw County had 85 confirmed cases, 16 probable cases, one death and one probable death; Luce County had 128 confirmed cases, and 69 probable cases; Mackinac County had 269 confirmed cases, 129 probable cases, and three deaths; Marquette County had 3,290 confirmed cases, 460 probable cases, 51 deaths and one probable death; and Ontonagon County had 285 confirmed cases, 30 probable cases, 15 deaths and one probable death.

The state does not include infections or deaths within the Michigan Department of Corrections system in county-by-county counts, however, as of Tuesday, the MDOC had 22,046 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 655 deaths and two probable deaths statewide according to state officials.

In the U.P., Alger Correctional Facility has had 139 confirmed cases, nine of which are currently active infections with 20 confirmed staff cases; Baraga Correctional Facility has had 168 confirmed cases, with 25 active infections, one death with 71 confirmed staff cases; Chippewa Correctional Facility has had 1,787 confirmed cases, 823 of which were active five deaths and 177 confirmed staff cases; Kinross Correctional Facility has had 1,134 confirmed cases, 120 of which are active, eight deaths and nine confirmed staff cases; Marquette Branch Prison has had 849 confirmed case, 12 of which are active and 174 confirmed staff cases; and Newberry Correctional Facility has had 853 confirmed cases, 40 of which are active, one death and 67 confirmed staff cases.
