ATHELSTANE — The remains of a missing person have been found in Marinette County, accordiing to Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve. The discovery closes a 2018 missing person case.

On Saturday afternoon, a couple walking their wooded property in the Town of Athelstane discovered human remains hanging from a tree. It was apparent these remains had been there for quite some time.

Sheriff’s officers investigating determined these remains were those of Benjamin D. Bodwin of Milwaukee Ws. He had been last seen in August of 2018 after leaving his broken down vehicle at a business in Athelstane. Bodwin would have been 54 years old when he went missing. The family of the deceased has been notified. No foul play is suspected and the medical examiner has ruled the death a suicide.

In addition to the medical examiner, the sheriff’s office was assisted by the Marinette County Central Dispatch and the Athelstane Fire Department.
