Motorcycle crashes cause severe injuries

ESCANABA — The Michigan State Police Gladstone Post responded to two separate motorcycle crashes that resulted in serious injuries Wednesday afternoon.

On Wednesday, Sept. 2 at about 5:37 p.m., the Gladstone Post was dispatched to a car- motorcycle personal injury crash at the intersection of US 2/41 and I Road in Wells Township. An investigation by troopers found a vehicle failed to yield and crossed the highway in front of a motorcycle. The motorcycle hit the vehicle broadside, and its driver — a 67-year-old Wilson man who was not wearing a helmet at the time — sustained multiple injuries, apparently including a serious head injury.

The driver was airlifted by Valley Med Flight to UP Health System — Marquette. The accident remains under investigation pending the condition of the motorcyclist.

The Gladstone Post was assisted by the Delta County Sheriff’s Office and Rampart EMS.

At about 1:45 p.m. Eastern the same day, the Gladstone Post responded to a single-vehicle motorcycle crash on US 41 near Oakwood Road in Nadeau Township. That crash involved a single motorcycle heading southbound. The driver — who was also not wearing a helmet — lost control and the motorcycle left the roadway to the right before striking several trees. The driver’s legs were severely injured, and he also suffered a head injury.

The highway remained open after the crash, and the crash site remains under investigation. The driver’s name has not been released.

Troopers from the Gladstone Post were assisted at the scene by Menominee County Sheriff deputies, EMTs from Mid County Rescue, paramedics from Rampart EMS, Valley Med Flight, Nadeau Township Fire Department and Poupores Towing Service.

As of Thursday morning, no additional information had been released on either incident.
