Mine to operate longer

MARQUETTE (AP) — Officials say a high-grade nickel and copper mine in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is expected to remain in operation more than a year longer than earlier expected.

Toronto-based Lundin Mining announced this week that it anticipates that the life of Eagle Mine in Marquette County will run through mid-2025, longer than an earlier projection of through 2023.

The company says the update comes after estimates have increased for the amount of nickel and copper in the mine’s Eagle East ore body.

The underground Eagle Mine has been in operation since 2014.
