LWV sets up voting guide, candidate forum

ESCANABA — The League of Women Voters of Delta County would like to direct voters to a free non-partisan voter education resource, VOTE411.org, and invite them to attend a candidate forum set for Oct. 22 in Gladstone.

VOTE411.org was created to provide a personalized voting guide that includes up-to-date information the voter needs to cast his/her ballot, including who will be on your ballot, information about early or absentee voting and what types of identification you will need.

The LWVDC urges voters in Delta County to prepare for the upcoming Nov. 4 general election by going to Vote411.org to read and compare candidate responses to relevant issues. Vote411.org also helps voters find their polling place, check voting hours and read tips about voting in Michigan.

“We have solicited responses to questions from the candidates running for the Escanaba City Council and the Gladstone City Commission. Residents need to hear from the candidates in their own words,” said Ann Bissell, voter service chair of the LWVDC. “We know voters in Delta County want to be informed before they vote in the upcoming general election.”

In partnership with the American Association of University Women, a candidate forum is scheduled for Oct. 22 at the Gladstone City Hall. The League will host the candidates running for three Gladstone City Commission seats at 6:30 p.m. The four candidates invited are: Whitney Maloney, Michael O’Connor, Stephen O’Driscoll and Joseph Thompson.

No forum will be done for the Escanaba City Council, as the three candidates are the incumbents running for three seats.

A few days after the Oct. 22 forum, the LWVDC expects to have the forum available for viewing on its Facebook page at www.facebook.com/DeltaCountyLeagueofWomenVoters/.

It is important for all voters to take advantage of every available opportunity to get questions answered by the candidates. Voting is the one time when all voters have an equal say in standing up for the issues and priorities that matter most to our community. So be prepared to vote on Nov. 4.
