HANNAHVILLE — The Corewell Health Mobile Mammography Unit is returning to support the Hannahville Indian Community, and the women in Delta and Menominee counties September 17 – 18.

This event is anticipated to screen 96 women in two days. The mobile mammography unit provides early breast cancer detection services to women ages 40 – 74. The self-contained mobile screening unit will travel to the Island Resort and Casino and the Hannahville Health Center providing no-cost breast cancer screening to health center clients, local Delta County community members, and tribal government employees with state-of-the-art 3D mammography screening services. This includes women of all races in both the Delta and Menominee Counties, Michigan. Making an appointment will ensure this screening is done at no cost and at a time convenient for you.

As you have most likely experienced, rural women often face challenges when it comes to cancer screenings, and mammograms can save lives by detecting breast cancer years before physical symptoms appear. Women who have participated in the mobile mammography events at Hannahville Health Center and Island Resort and Casino have stated, “The only reason I get my mammogram is because you bring the mobile unit to the UP.” Many others have stated “It’s always nice here, the people are pleasant, and it doesn’t hurt.”

Screen for the future of Anishinaabe Kwe and women across the UP. Mammograms are available for insured, uninsured, and underinsured women. If you are uninsured, underinsured, or can’t afford your insurance or your Medicare Part A deductible please call or text our patient navigator Kiana at 231-268-1307, or call Stacey on our Kwe Brave line at 906-632-6896 ext.106 to enroll in the Michigan Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Navigation Program (BC3NP). The BC3NP program can arrange and pay for program-eligible women to receive breast cancer screenings at this event, follow-up care for an abnormal mammogram result, and treatment should the individual be diagnosed with breast cancer.

All women interested in completing their screening at the Island Resort and Casino on Wednesday, September 17, 2024, should reach out to Stacey at 906-632-6896 x 106 or call or text Kiana at 231-268-1307, and for individuals who would like to complete their screening at the Hannahville Health Center, on Thursday, September 18 please reach out to Kelly Hansen at 906-723-2570
