Esky city departments outline service plan

ESCANABA The city of Escanaba departments have outlined how city services will and will not be affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Department of Public Works will continue providing essential services to residents, including garbage and recycling collection. These will stay on the current schedule, and people must have their carts out by 7:30 a.m. on their collection day.

Public Works staff will be limited at this time. For any questions, contact 906-786-1842, rbecotte@escanaba.org or wtaavola@escanaba.org.

The city’s water and wastewater departments will also still be providing their services. Citizens can continue to use and drink tap water as normal, and COVID-19 has not been detected in drinking water supplies. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, conventional water treatment methods using filtration and disinfection (including the municipal drinking water system) should remove or inactivate coronavirus.

Due to the important role hygiene and sanitation play in fighting COVID-19, water shutoffs have been postponed until further notice.

Any questions can be directed to the water and wastewater departments at 786-1301 and 786-3291.

Escanaba City Hall utility staff will be working limited office hours. Staff will continue to monitor email and voicemail messages throughout the day and will be returning messages. If you have a question about your utility bill or services, call 906-786-0552 and leave a message, staff will return your call as soon as they are able.

For any residents who are traveling back to the area from their winter home and need their water turned back on, contact the water plant at 906-786-3291 to schedule an appointment.
