Jail for attempt to intimidate witness

ESCANABA — A Garden man was sentenced to 10 months in jail in Delta County Circuit Court for attempting to intimidate a witness.

Jason Ray Ansell, 45, of 15712 Vans Harbor Road, Garden, pleaded guilty to one count of attempted witnesses – bribing/intimidating/interfering.

He was sentenced to 10 months in jail, to be served consecutively to a 12 month sentence for License Documents/Plates – Forgery.

According to the Delta County Prosecutor’s Office, on May 18, 2019, Ansell, after being notified of a new assault charge and being served a no contact order, contacted the protected person on a jail telephone.

The office said Ansell had verbally threatened the victim and the victim had reminded him that jail calls were recorded.

Ansell was ordered to pay $698 in fines and costs.
