Column: 2025 U.P. State Fair set for August 11–17

ESCANABA — The Upper Peninsula State Fair is gearing up for another exciting year, bringing together families, businesses, and visitors from across the region for a week of celebration, culture, and community to Escanaba. The beloved tradition for residents and visitors alike, the fair will take place from August 11-17, 2025, offering a full week of live entertainment, thrilling rides, agricultural exhibits, and local pride on full display.

The fair has long been a treasured tradition in the U.P., not only for its entertainment value but also for the significant economic, cultural, and social benefits it brings to the community. The fair is a gathering place that supports local businesses, showcases our youth, and highlights the talent, creativity, and values that make the Upper Peninsula unique.

This year’s event promises a packed schedule. Popular grandstand acts are expected to draw large crowds with free performances scheduled nightly. Reserved seating (Gold Circle) is available for those who want a front-row experience. Skerbeck Entertainment Group returns with midway rides and games for all ages. Single ride tickets and ride-all-day wristbands are available onsite at ride kiosks. Interactive exhibits and livestock showings are planned throughout the week along with several other family-friendly activities such as the DNR Pocket Park outdoor experiences, the Growing UP Foresters exhibit, robotics demonstrations, and the Antique Steam and Gas Village demonstrations.

You may notice a few enhancements to the fair, hence the 2025 theme “Experience the Extraordinary.” Chewsday Tuesday enables fair-goers to purchase sample-size fair food favorites at a reduced cost; green spaces are located throughout the fairgrounds to provide a calm sitting area for those needing a break from the sun or the rides; a sensory-friendly midway is available from 11a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday to create a comfortable atmosphere for those with sensitivity to noise or bright lights; tickets can be purchased for individual rides instead of committing to a full day of rides; and free grandstand entertainment is available again this year, creating an opportunity for everyone to enjoy the entertainment without an added cost. The week-long event is easily accessible for all ages with ample parking and affordable admission prices by the day or for the week.

The U.P. State Fair is more than a carnival – it’s a celebration of Upper Peninsula agriculture, heritage, family togetherness, and economic vitality. From high-energy concerts and thrilling rides to traditional displays and youth education programs, not to mention the opportunity to have lunch with the Lt. Governor, the fair offers a lot of diversity and excitement for everyone. Join us August 11-17, 2025 in Escanaba for a week of fun that showcases the best of the UP’s community spirit.
