GLADSTONE — Big things are happening on the Bay de Noc shores next weekend as Gladstone prepares to welcome professional anglers from across the country for the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Masters Walleye Circuit (MWC).
Set for Friday and Saturday, July 18-19, the nationally recognized, catch-and-release tournament will launch daily at 7 a.m. from Van Cleve Park’s boat launch and bring anglers back each afternoon to weigh in their best catches. And spectators are in for a treat — the public is encouraged to head to Van Cleve Park at 3 p.m. both days to cheer on the competitors as they showcase their fish live on stage. It’s free, family-friendly, and a perfect way to spend a summer afternoon.
Thanks to a strong local partnership between the Delta County Chamber of Commerce, the City of Gladstone, Hannahville Indian Community, Bays de Noc Great Lakes Sportsfishermen, and Visit Escanaba, the tournament promises to bring not only national attention but also a meaningful economic boost to the area.
This tournament showcases our world-class fishery and brings people into our hotels, restaurants, bait shops, gas stations, and many other businesses. It’s also a celebration of what makes Delta County so special — our natural beauty, strong partnerships, and warm hospitality.
All fish are released back into the lake under the watchful eyes of MWC staff and local sportsfishermen. The rules promote sustainability: anglers may weigh only five walleye per day, all over 15 inches, with only one over 23 inches per angler.
Whether you’re a die-hard angler or just looking for something fun to do outdoors, this event offers a front-row seat to high-level fishing action — right in our own backyard. The tournament is expected to make a splash — literally and figuratively.
Can’t attend in person? Live coverage will be available at www.masterswalleyecircuit.com and on the MWC’s Facebook page at facebook.com/MastersWalleyeCircuit.
