The Gladstone Public Library fall hours and Labor Day holiday closure
GLADSTONE -- The library will be open Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The Gladstone Public library will be closed Friday, Sept. 4 and Monday, Sept. 7 in observance of Labor Day.
Memoir-writting class
ESCANABA -- A 6-week memoir-writing class will be held Friday mornings from 10-11 a.m. at the Gary Abrahamson Enrichment Center in Escanaba. It began Aug. 28 and goes through Oct. 2. Rapid River American Legion summer VSO schedule
RAPID RIVER -- The Rapid River American Legion summer Veteran Service Office (VSO) is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 1.

Blessing of the Monarchs
RAPID RIVER — U.P. Wild Church will have its sixth-annual Blessing of the Monarchs at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, at Peninsula Point Lighthouse at the south end of the Stonington Peninsula.
Each year, monarchs gather at Peninsula Point as they prepare to migrate south. The event will honor the survival of the monarch butterfly and wish them safe travel as they make their way to the Mexico wintering ground. All are invited to attend in a wonderful community event of appreciation for nature and our place in it.
Those attending should bring a chair and dress for conditions. Carpooling is highly encouraged, as parking at the point is limited. Peninsula Point is at 3722 County 513 T Road in Bay de Noc Township
Delta County Democratic Party meeting
ESCANABA -- The next general meeting of the Delta County Democratic Party is Wednesday, Sept. 2 at the USW Hall, 1201 Sheridan Road, Escanaba and on Zoom. ESCANABA -- The next meeting of the Delta County Republicans will be held on Thursday, Sept. 3, at the Bay College BHAT Building, Room 421, at 5:30 p.m. All members of the public is welcome to attend.
Bay Sages regular meeting
ESCANABA -- The regular monthly meeting of Bay Sages will be held Thursday, Sept. 3, at 10 a.m. in the Joseph Heirman University Center at Bay de Noc Community College.
Guest speaker this month is Dr Steven Knope. He will be advising members on the current medical care crisis and what can be done about it.
Bay Sages is an organization established to provide educational opportunities for older adults residing in the Delta County area. Dues are $20 for the year and include monthly meetings, coffee and cookies and a wide variety of educational opportunities for members. Guests and new members are always welcome to attend. We are starting a new season (August 2026-June 2027) therefore we will be accepting dues for the upcoming year. Dues are payable at the meeting or can be mailed to Bay Sages at Bay College.
Food items and monetary donations for the Bay College Food Pantry are gratefully accepted at all meetings.
Rock Lions Club 81st annual Labor Day celebration
ROCK -- The Rock Lions Club is having their annual Labor Day celebration on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026. The parade is set to start at 11 a.m. The parade theme this year is America 250.
The celebration will also feature other events, including a kid’s tractor pull at 2 p.m., bounce houses, a bean bag tourney, cowpie bingo, a flea market and more. Live music will also be played at the event.

Michigan Parkinson Foundation meeting
The next meeting of the Michigan Parkinson Foundation support group for Escanaba and the surrounding areas is Tuesday September 8th, at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church, 10439 Wisconsin Avenue, Rapid River. Kim Rotundo, the guest speaker, will be sharing information on DBS (Deep Brain Stimulation) Surgery, adaptive DBS, and the importance of exercise for people with Parkinson's

Free Bible classes to begin
For the fourth year, Steven Sprague will soon be conducting free Bible study classes at Bay College.
The non-denominational study-based forum is open to all adults and teaches attendees how to “read the Bible with understanding” and “accurately unveil God’s teachings,” a press release stated.
Sprague authored a book entitled “Understanding His Story: Humanity’s Eleventh Hour,” produced through Christian Faith Publishing, in 2023.
This year’s series of classes begins Thursday, Sept. 10 at the Joseph Heirman Center in room 963 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Student workbooks are supplied free, but as class size is limited, registration is required in order to secure a seat as well as materials.

Escanaba Class of ’81 reunion
ESCANABA -- The Escanaba Class of 1981 will be having a 45th reunion on Saturday, Sept. 12 at the Highland Golf Club. Starting out the day will be a golf outing at 1 p.m. Please contact Dave Harris if you would like to participate. Registration and social will take place from 4 to 6 p.m., and a buffet dinner will take place at 6:30 p.m.

Youth Powwow
GLADSTONE -- The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, Youth Education and Activities will be hosting a Youth Powwow on Saturday, Sept. 12 at the Ziibing Pavilion at Pioneer Trail Park, 6822 US Highway 2, 41 and M35.
Registration will take place at 11 a.m., with a grand entry at noon and a feast at 4:30 p.m. The event features free admission and is open to the public -- all ages are welcome. Interested vendors can contact Sarah at 906-203-5888.
Holy Name Class of ’66 reunion
ESCANABA -- The Holy Name Class of 1966 has scheduled its 60th reunion for Sept. 12 at the Escanaba Elks Club starting at 4 p.m. There is a fee per person to attend. Everyone is welcome. The Swedish Club September Meeting

ESCANABA -- The Escanaba High School Class of 1976 has scheduled its 50th reunion for Sept. 26 at the Highland Golf Course. A schedule of events for the weekend and registration materials will be provided on the class Facebook page, Escanaba Class of 1976, or by email.

Delta County Historical Society museum, lighthouse open
ESCANABA -- The Delta Historical Society museum and the Sand Point Lighthouse are both open for the summer season. Both are open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily until Labor Day.
The archives in the John Beaumier Delta County Historical Society museum are open Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.

West Shore Fishing Museum open for the summer
MENOMINEE -- The West Shore Fishing Museum is open for the summer on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. or by appointment through September 6.
The museum’s first event of the season is the annual perennial plant sale this Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. central. Plants for sale will include Siberian Iris, many cultivars of daylilies, Canna and Calla lilies, Rose Campion, Coral Bells and a great variety of other local perennials.

Garden Peninsula Historical Society museum open
GARDEN -- The Garden Peninsula Historical Society has opened the Garden Peninsula Historical museum for the summer at 6347 State St in Garden. Operating hours are Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m.
The museum is rich in the history of the Garden Peninsula. Family history notebooks, cemetery records and photo albums are available for researchers.
Harvest Moon 5k
ESCANABA -- The Northern Lights YMCA will be hosting a Harvest Moon 5k Run/Walk on Friday, Oct. 16 beginning at 8 p.m. This fun-filled nighttime 5K is fit for all ages and fitness levels. Glow gear is encouraged. Prize and refreshments will be available.

Donations sought for book sale
ESCANABA -- The Delta County League of Women Voters is looking for donations of books, audio books, DVDs and music CDs. Funds from the annual book sale at the Waterfront Art Festival are used to publish Voter Guides and for other voter services.
Donated materials should be no more than 10 years old and in good condition. The league is not able to accept and store large quantities of books and requests the books meet the donation criteria.
Large print books are often requested. Books can be delivered during normal business hours to the Ludington Centre, 1112 Ludington St. Donors are asked to use the 11th Street entrance, Suite 208, and look for the league's sign. For pick-up, call Pat Rudden at 906-280-1789.
Delta County Cancer Alliance seeks Donations
ESCANABA -- The Delta County Cancer Alliance (DCCA) is in need of bed pads. Many of the DCCA’s clients who are going through cancer treatments appreciate the convenience of using bed pads for comfort and cleanliness at a very challenging time. The DCCA will accept donations at their office, 1230 North 18th Street (at the rear of Christ the King Lutheran Church), from Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Delta Animal Shelter requests donations
ESCANABA -- The Delta Animal Shelter is in need of the following donations: Purina Cat Chow (blue bag), Purina Kitten Chow (yellow bag), NutriSource chicken/rice dog food, Purina One chicken/rice dog food, canned dog food, canned cat/kitten food, soft dog treats, scoopable cat litter, clay cat litter, bleach, liquid Lysol, paper towels, dish soap, garbage bags, power laundry detergent, hand sanitizer, dog collars/leashes, rabbit food and hay.
Monetary donations would be exceptionally helpful, especially with the amount of medical and police cases. Donations can be dropped off at the shelter, 6975 County Road 426, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday or outside the building in the donation box.
Gladstone church offers clothing
GLADSTONE -- The Memorial United Methodist Church, 1920 Lake Shore Drive in Gladstone, has a free clothes closet with coats, and shoes available in most sizes. Hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays or by appointment by calling 906-428-9311. Donations are also accepted.
