Rapid River American Legion summer VSO schedule
RAPID RIVER -- The Rapid River American Legion summer Veteran Service Office (VSO) is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the following Tuesdays: July 28, Aug. 4, 18, 25 and Sept. 1. The VSO is closed Tuesday, Aug. 11.

Compassionate Friends meeting
ESCANABA -- Anyone who has had a child die in their family is invited to attend the meeting of the Bay De Noc Chapter of the Compassionate Friends today, July 23. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in a third floor meeting room at the First Presbyterian Church located at 819 First Avenue South in Escanaba.
Those who have lost a child, grandchild, or sibling are welcome to join Thursday’s meeting.

Trinity Lutheran Church Pancake Brunch
RAPID RIVER -- The Community Pancake Brunch will take place Saturday, July 25th, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Stonington Community Hall, Rapid River/Stonington. Swedish pancakes are the highlight of the breakfast, along with buttermilk pancakes, bacon, sausage and much more. Raffles, quilts, entertainment and 50/50 drawings will be happening. Take a trip on 513 T Road to the Peninsula Point Lighthouse and stop in for breakfast on your way at the Stonington Community Hall on your left. We appreciate everyone's support. Meeting of the Bay De Noc Bee Keeping Club
ESCANABA -- The Bay De Noc Bee Keeping Club is hosting a public meeting on Wednesday, July 29 at 6 p.m. at the Community Gardens across from the Airport.
Anyone interested in joining is encouraged to come and if they have protective gear to bring it but it is not necessary.
They will be doing hive inspections and inspecting mating boxes looking for new queens. Anyone interested in learning about bee keeping is encouraged to come.

First United Methodist Church bake sale

Delta LWV holds used book sale
ESCANABA -- The League of Women Voters of Delta County will hold a used book, video and CD sale on Saturday August 1, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in conjunction with the Bonifas Fine Arts Center Waterfront Art Festival in Ludington Park.
Proceeds from the sale are used to pay for printing voter education publications or other voter services.

Escanaba Class of ’81 reunion
ESCANABA -- The Escanaba Class of 1981 will be having a 45th reunion on Saturday, Sept. 12. at the Highland Golf Club. Starting out the day will be a golf outing at 12:30 p.m.. Delta County Historical Society museum, lighthouse open
ESCANABA -- The Delta Historical Society museum and the Sand Point Lighthouse are both open for the summer season. Both are open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily until Labor Day.
The archives in the John Beaumier Delta County Historical Society museum are open Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.

West Shore Fishing Museum open for the summer
MENOMINEE -- The West Shore Fishing Museum is open for the summer on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. or by appointment through September 6.
The museum’s first event of the season is the annual perennial plant sale this Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. central. Plants for sale will include Siberian Iris, many cultivars of daylilies, Canna and Calla lilies, Rose Campion, Coral Bells and a great variety of other local perennials.

Garden Peninsula Historical Society museum open
GARDEN -- The Garden Peninsula Historical Society has opened the Garden Peninsula Historical museum for the summer at 6347 State St in Garden. Operating hours are Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m.
The museum is rich in the history of the Garden Peninsula. Family history notebooks, cemetery records and photo albums are available for researchers.
Harvest Moon 5k
ESCANABA -- The Northern Lights YMCA will be hosting a Harvest Moon 5k Run/Walk on Friday, October 16 beginning at 8 p.m. This fun-filled nighttime 5K is fit for all ages and fitness levels. Glow gear is encouraged. Prize and refreshments will be available.

Donations sought for book sale
ESCANABA -- The Delta County League of Women Voters is looking for donations of books, audio books, DVDs and music CDs to be sold at its annual book sale at the Waterfront Art Festival. Funds from the sale are used to publish Voter Guides and for other voter services.
Donated materials should be no more than 10 years old and in good condition. The league is not able to accept and store large quantities of books and requests the books meet the donation criteria.
Large print books are often requested. Books can be delivered during normal business hours to the Ludington Centre, 1112 Ludington St. Donors are asked to use the 11th Street entrance, Suite 208, and look for the league's sign. For pick-up, call Pat Rudden at 906-280-1789.
Delta County Cancer Alliance seeks Donations
ESCANABA -- The Delta County Cancer Alliance (DCCA) is in need of bed pads. Many of the DCCA’s clients who are going through cancer treatments appreciate the convenience of using bed pads for comfort and cleanliness at a very challenging time. The DCCA will accept donations at their office, 1230 North 18th Street, from Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Delta Animal Shelter requests donations
ESCANABA -- The Delta Animal Shelter is in need of the following donations: Purina Cat Chow (blue bag), Purina Kitten Chow (yellow bag), NutriSource chicken/rice dog food, Purina One chicken/rice dog food, canned dog food, canned cat/kitten food, soft dog treats, scoopable cat litter, clay cat litter, bleach, liquid Lysol, paper towels, dish soap, garbage bags, power laundry detergent, hand sanitizer, dog collars/leashes, rabbit food and hay.
Monetary donations would be exceptionally helpful, especially with the amount of medical and police cases. Donations can be dropped off at the shelter, 6975 County Road 426, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday or outside the building in the donation box.

GLADSTONE -- The Memorial United Methodist Church, 1920 Lake Shore Drive in Gladstone, has a free clothes closet with coats, and shoes available in most sizes. Hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays or by appointment by calling 906-428-9311. Donations are also accepted.
